I thought no one went out in August? Clearly no one told the Wire + Wool Crew let alone the Veggie Massive, the Alley Cafe was rammoed (yes that’s a word, now) for the latest one of those Wire + Wool Min-Fest thingy watsits.
A diverse line-up (inside and out) we caught three Notts acts that collectively smashed a metaphorical crater of dinosaur wipe-out proportions, these musicians weren’t in the mood for messing.
First up recent Future Session stars THE AFTERDARK MOVEMENT, we are so full of love for these guys its near impossible to be objective so lets not even bother pretending we’re going to be! They nailed it, song after song, winning over the crowd and getting them jumping so much a second natural disaster become possible, would the meteor smash be followed by an earth quake? I’m pretty sure the tectonic plates beneath Nottingham were moving.
Next up Future Sound of Nottingham Finalists TASTEBUDS, last seen nailing it on the Rock City main stage and now enjoying their new found fame post raving reviews in the Nottingham Post AND The Metro, they too got the crowd moving, as well as educated in the worlds of headwear and instrument diversity. What’s not to love about a band that wear top hats and use a melodica?
As if things could get any ‘huger’, I seriously found myself worrying for the future of the planet, the dinosaurs wouldn’t have lasted three seconds against this kind of force. JUST JAMES, new band on the block featuring beatboxer MOTORMOUF (better known for his collaborations with Nina Smith). You know that phrase ‘smashed it out the park’? Well this lot smashed it out the solar system… HUGE. HUGE, HUGE. We’ll be dropping an exclusive from them on our next New Music Podcast.
If the planet is still going.
