So, you’re back again to find out what musical delights await you in the Nottinghamshire music scene? Well, hello again internet stranger. We can tell you there’s some briliant Indie Rock ‘n’ Roll madness, a proper diverse birthday bash, as well as a bit of a do down by the water to look forward to this week.
Oh, and there’s this little do going off on Sunday called the Future Sound of Nottingham too. You may have heard us mention it once or twice. Here at Nusic, we don’t want to be that lame media entity that puts their own gig in the T3 – but, should you want to see six ace Nottinghamshire acts (SUSPECT ALIBI, CHESHIRE AND THE CAT, AS DECEMBER FALLS, THE CHASE, ELLIE KEEGAN and JOSH WHEATLEY) take to the Rock City stage for a night of New Notts Musical aweomeness, you should totally come down. GIG ONE
HOUSE OF THIEVES
British Indie Rock ‘n’ Roll four piece HOT, as well as having an appropriate acronym, possess a tenacious but romanticised view of modern British life. Their thought-provoking lyrics intertwined with the musicians’ attentiveness toward rhythmic riffs and incredibly catchy hooks, makes them a pretty mesmerising listen. Their lyrical substance, tight guitar playing and energetic stage presence ensure a great audience connection. These guys will put on a helluva headline show.
First support comes from three-piece PAPER SHOP DAVE, made up of ‘Randy, Dr J, and Funter Fanta’ AKA Fred. These guys, besides making themselves sound like characters from a Scooby Doo episode, are an Indie Rock band which aims to ‘fragment minds with serious grooves’. From listening to their song ‘The Wild’, the influences from the likes of Foals, Peace, and Bloc Party are clear. Their EP titled “First Draft” was released in May, so if you’ve seen them before, expect to hear a lot of brand new material.
The second support for the night will be three-piece CROSA ROSA, who are simply not for the faint hearted, specifically, those who oppose the practicing of Voodoo and eating souls. They are a Garage/Psych Rock band inspired by 60’s surf and psychedelic, made up of two Joe’s and a Kegan. These guys produce a mind-melting sound that is akin to that of The Wytches. These guys are lined up to play Y Not? Festival, beside acts such as Primal Scream, Johnny Marr, and Snoop Dee-Oh-Double-G. Fanceh, ey?

THE KILLER BEES
Apiphobics out there, don’t fear, the only sting these guys will give you is a JAZZY STING OF BLUESY GOODNESS STRIGHT TO YOUR EAR HOLES. These guys perform as a trio or quartet, and usually play an incredible selection of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Blues and traditional jazzzzzzzzzz (bahaha, yes, these tenuous bee jokes ARE only going to get worse, in case you were wondering) I for one, am buzzing for it (told you).
UNKNOWN ERA
High energy ‘mashup party band’ made up of Hip Hop connoisseur Kane Ashmore, and a giant’s handful of former members of bands such as BREADCHASERS, FRANKIUM, and more. Their sound mixes elements of Reggae, Hip Hop, Ska, Gypsy, Swing, to present to you a premeditated mash-up of scrumptious musical fun, for your dancing pleasure.
SAME STREETS
Hey sweetness, hey sadness, this Rock ‘n’ Roll three-piece will be bliss for yer troubled soul. Influences include The Libertines, Baby Shambles and The Who, which you can hear in their tightly constructed songs. After their explosive performance at Dot to Dot, they’ve been tipped for big things by Fred Perry Subculture.
SKAPETE the UPLIFTER
Like much less threatening version of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Conan the Destroyer. SKAPETE DAWSON will be playing the finest sounds in Reggae and Ska. Dawson has had loads of musical experience, from Drum and Bass, to Jungle, Funk and Hardcore Punk. His positive, uplifting songs are created using only his acoustic guitar, vocal and perceptive lyrics.
THE EDI JOHNSTON BIT
A ukulele wielding solo act who plays songs that are a bit ‘silly’. Speaking of which, he’s been a bit silly himself by not been massively informative online, so we can’t find much about ‘im! He’s the vocalist for THE AUSTIN FRANCIS CONNECTION, though, who are a feel good acoustic Hip Hop trio. I’ve heard from my sources (tiny borrowers that live in the walls of various gig venues) that he’ll be an act that’ll definitely make you smile.
MOTORMOUF aka Alex Young describes himself as ‘Beatboxing Bastard and Lyrical tongue twister’. He’s worked with local talents such as ASHMORE, NINA SMITH, and loooaads of others, and is also known for his alliance with The Mouthy Poets Collective. He’s said to wow crowds with his solo beat boxing sets, demonstrating his confident and profound skills as a beatboxer and rapper. It’s just him, a mic, and a loop pedal.
GERRY TRIMBLE’s self-proclaimed ‘Post-Anti-Folk-Core’ will provide songs that are humerous, observant and endlessly endearing. He’s the vocalist and guitarist of THE BASTARD SONS, but they’re in ‘hibernation’ right now. So, it’ll be a solo set from the funny Folk Rock connoisseur. Expect songs akin to Frank Turner and Alkaline Trio.

If you don’t fancy bringing a present for Gaz this Saturday, there’s also a pretty huge line up of Nottingham’s most talented at Waterfront for ya, with Public House Band presenting ‘Nottingham Kick Out The Jams’. There’s also a full buffet available for an extra £1.50, and a collection is going to be made for YMCA in honour of Dave Windley who passed away this year. Bring yerselves down, stuff yer pretty faces, listen to some great performers, and contribute to a great cause.
Announced among this incredible line up is the internationally followed Nottingham emcee, producer and sound engineer JUGA-NAUT. He’ll be performing his Wu Tang, MF Doom and A Tribe Called Quest influenced music. Blending classic and original production, his songs are authentic, experimental and hold some incredible lyrics. LAST SONS will also be performing, who are a brilliant duo made up of one Rapper and one Turntabelist, signed by Uncommon Records. Expect slick, polished production laced with politically fuelled poetry. Human Beatboxer LEE TABIX will be making some pretty extraordinary sounds with his mouth, demonstrating his ability to imitate pretty much any song with full beat, bass and lyrical structure. One of the best live bands that Notts has to offer, PRIME, will also be delivering their wild, Punky goodness like an intense punch to the face. You lucky, lucky people. THE BREAKDOWNS will also be mooching about, who are a five-piece Power Pop band with Garage Rock elements, who will demonstrate some insanely catchy hooks and playful lyricism. Alternative Social Media shy Rock trio ROBOTS: JAKE MARRIOTT will be gifting us with some brilliantly crafted tunes. Fronted by Singer Songwriter, Dan Heathcote, ZADKIEL are a four piece Alternative Rock/Indie band signed by Unit 24 Records. They’ve been termed as Nirvana meets Jeff Buckley due to their haunting vocals, and dark, Psychedelic Indie Metal styles. DANIEL ISON will be performing his own form of self-described solo acoustic ‘ridiculousness’, or rather, as we think, Folky Acoustic greatness. The wonderfully soulful Acoustic sounds of JOANNE LOVATT will provide some gorgeous songs, showcasing her versatile voice and exploring various different genres. Acoustic Rock Singer Songwriter PAUL WALKER found his voice on various European street corners, and now he’s gigging about hoodtown like a mad thing performing his Bob Dylan inspired songs. Finally, (phew!) Ukelele duo UP will be demonstrating their imaginative approach to performing ukulele centred songs, without being comedic. Expect Folk, Blues, Country and Reggae tunes that are very very serious. No laughing. Seriously.
Also playing will be Azzuro Peaks, from Derby; Natalie Smallwood, from Derby; Rhett Barrow, from Leicester; The Protoneers, from Lincolnshire; and Zero Tolerance, from London.
