Ah, the sweet sound of music – nope, not the musical, but what’s happening in Notts this week of course. There’s so much going on it’s coming out of our ears (but it’s not wax, that’s gross) from some Bodega headliners to a World Music festival, there’s plenty to get yersen involved with.

WEDNESDAY

Lets kick start with Rough Tradetheir monthly pick of live acts, held on the first Wednesday of every month is back, and it’s got a stellar lineup yet again. This time, they have THE MOCKING JAYS who bring the Indie Pop-Rock zest which is bound to get you singing along with catchy choruses galore. Believe us – they know how to get the crowd involved.

Also performing are AMULET, playing classic Indie with a hell load of heavenly guitar solo’s, which’ll build you up and get you hyped. You may recognise them from when they used to be JOE & MIKE. Just when you are high enough they drop lines “about breaking hearts before the morning starts”. Tut tut, naughty lads.

Dropping into Rough Trade as well is singer/songwriter JOSH WHEATLEY, beautiful mellow Alternative Pop tunes that give you all of the feels. He’s been working on plenty of new tunes, so hopefully we’ll get a sneak peak of those. Full of catchy hooks but still pretty peaceful, you’ll have goosebumps from his angelic voice but don’t worry people, that’s normal!

THURSDAY

At The Bodega on Thursday you’ll find SUPER FURNITURE, champs of #FSN2016. You may have seen em open the main stage of Splendour earlier this year? No? Well come back out from your Narnia wardrobe and back into the real world! As Leftlion so rightly put it they’re “for fans of a good head bang” with their alternative tunes, and they have “sprinklings of Indie and Math Rock” too.

If that’s not enough to get your fancy like Mr Tickle (yes that really is a Mr Men reference), THE CHASE are supporting. Nottingham born and bred these cheeky chappies from St Anns are not only very popular but extremely talented, they started back in 2007 and to give you some scope the youngest member is now sixteen, they no doubt learnt how to play before they even grew arms… maybe. Either way, they’re insanely good now.

Fletcher Jackson from Newcastle Upon Tyne is also supporting.

SATURDAY

Saturday is host to The Nottingham World Music Community Festival2016 sees the second of it’s kind, being held in St Anns Notts. Not only is it going to be home to banging food (we’ll let you get your Ramsey on for that) but, of course, more importantly – it is also home to some incredible Notts musical talent. Here are just a few of the highlights.

If you love a good ole’ Irish jig (lets face it, everyone does), then KELLY’S HEROES are on hand to let you get your Michael Flatley on. Legs will be flying everywhere so we do issue warning – jig at your own risk. This Nottingham based, traditional Irish and Celtic Folk band have an accordion and a bodhran (that’s Irish for drum apparently) on hand to make you feel even more like you are in the *STEREOTYPE ALERT* homeland of Guinness, so bring your dancing shoes.

NOTTINGHAM SCHOOL OF SAMBA (NSOS) are also on the list of performers, so get ready to bring your carnival moves all over again. The vibrant drumming group has been working in the city bringing blissful beats for over twenty years, playing a variety of tunes from traditional Brazilian samba all the way to some funky Hip-Hop and Drum and Bass anthems.

BLESSING MAGORE is on hand for all your Afro-Funk needs. Fancy a bit of Reggae? He knows his way round that too. In fact, Blessing is prepared to deliver everything you could ever need to get in the BEST of moods. Take those dancing skills you learnt from NSOS, and get on the flooooooor! His Future Session is the perfect example of his mood-uplifting energy, check it HERE
