We’ve got some absolute corkers in-store for you this week, including a few hidden gems!
GIG ONE
Seriously excited for this one, its SWIMMING, KAPPA GAMMA and MEGAPHONIC THRIFT at NOTTINGHAM BOAT CLUB on Saturday March 10th. Having previously played host to industry legends such as THE SEX PISTOLS, LED ZEPPELIN and FLEETWOOD MAC, Notts based band SWIMMING are about to hop on the legend bandwagon by playing at the NOTTINGHAM BOAT CLUB. Masterfully combining trippy synth, rolling drums and triumphant guitars, SWIMMING have managed to produce a unique sound that is rich, uplifting and utterly effortless – think Muse on acid. This band are destined for the big stage in the near future, so do the smart thing and be amongst the first to witness them on the first leg of their inevitable rise to stardom!
Complimenting SWIMMING‘S roaring melodies are band of the moment KAPPA GAMMA. Disjointed drum beats and intricate guitar riffs provide the foundations for a sound that is light on decadence but heavy on soul, a real treat to the ears and a must for anyone with a penchant for sound with a sensual twist.
Headlining are Swedish rockers THE MEGAPHONIC THRIFT as part of their European tour.
Prepare to get your mosh on.

GIG TWO
Next up we have WILL JEFFERY’s EP Launch with CECILE GREY and TIMOTHY J SIMPSON at THE JAM CAFE on Friday March 9th. Prepare to be wooed by the smoky melodic charms of gravelled-voice folk singer WILL JEFFERY. Supported by his backing band THE WILD GENTRY, WILL JEFFERY has been able to achieve a certain character and strength in his music that is beautifully replicated live. If you’re looking for a fresh blend of folk magic as a getaway from your usual run-of-the-mill pop, this is definitely the gig for you.
Supporting WILL JEFFERY is CECILE GREY. Gentle vocals and flowing lyrics combine to create haunting music that is like a soothing blanket of sound to the ears. Well worth a listen! On a more upbeat note but still in-keeping with the folksy theme, TIMOTHY J SIMPSON AND THE MONSTROUS DEAD will have you tapping your toes and have your hand a-slapping your knee to their country beats, complete with energetic drums and fast finger work on the guitar. Definitely not just for those clad in check shirts and cowboy boots. A far cry from your standard booze-fest Notts night out, this gig will give your ears a well-deserved break from the mainstream and introduce you to the younger side of folk.

Whether you’re part of a band, group or a solo performer all music styles are welcome (and its open to all not just students!). Auditions will be held infront of a live audience and a panel of industry experts. The musical perfomers that most impress the panel will be asked to return for the grand final at SPANKY VAN DYKES later in the month. What a fantastic opportunity for musicians and supporters alike.
