UPDATE: THE DANDYLIONS have confirmed to us they are no longer playing on Wednesday.
Happy Hay Fever season! If you’re trying to read this through outbursts of sneezing with watery eyes, I sympathise with you entirely. This week there’s a proper range of gigs going on. AND they’re all for free. There’s a showcase of three of Rough Trade’s fave Notts acts, an album launch in Warsop and an EP launch at the Contemporary.
WEDNESDAY
Triple Bill is back at Rough Trade and you could say it’s a bit of an eclectic mix…
You’ll probably know SOFT GIRLS AND BOYS CLUB as Webbo and the Soft Boys (they’ve had to change their name for copyright issues). Their trippy Psychedelic soundscape with elements of sounds from the 60s with a modern air reminiscent of Tame Impala.
ALICE SHORT will be bringing her incredible spoken word to RT. Alice has just announced she’s releasing a 4 track EP called ‘Lo-Fi for Old Times – Vol 1.’ All the tracks will be recorded on a tape recorder which will strip back Alice’s performances into their original pure, raw state.
On first look, THE DANDYLIONS seem like a pretty average band. Oh wait, pink and yellow lycra, leg warmers and wrestling masks probably ain’t your standard band, are they? Their stage presence and charisma will get you moving like a bouncy ball with 70s inspired Glam Rock with high notes that defy the laws of physics.

FRIDAY
PRETTY BABS are launching their debut album ‘Grafitti Lights’ at The Black Market Venue in Warsop. They chose this venue as it’s like their second home, where they first practiced and gigged. Despite only forming last year, the band have already made enough material to make an album filled with Rock and an almost Springsteen esque vocal.
Support comes from fellow Warsopians THE STAR BOTHERERS. The duo make a sort of folky, spoken wordy sorta, tongue in cheek, sometimes a bit political ISH music with dry lyrics, a guitar, bass and drums. You’re just gonna have to listen for yourselves if you want a better description, okay?!
You can also catch SPUD, a “5 panel, Jogger wearing, dope smoking, folk singer from Notts with a bit of punk thrown in.” He’s got songs about Robin Hood and one called ‘Chocolate Biscuit.’ He’s definitely a proper Notts lad.
Also supporting are Fiona’s Run from Derbyshire, Formerly Butt Lane and Fast Car to Florence.

SATURDAY
STACEY MCMULLEN is releasing his debut EP this week and is having a party at The Contemporary to celebrate. Stacey’s music doesn’t stick to one genre, the EP ‘I Wait’ takes influence from celtic, blues, samba and flamenco and that’s just a small picking of what he’s got to offer.
Support comes from BENJAMIN ZIEC who you’ll probs recognise as being TREKKAH. Benjamin’s acoustic performances consist of catchy, boppy Folk with a sprinkle of Reggae.
THE GIRL AND THE STONE will also be supporting. Made up of Will and Kym, the duo came together last year after bonding over afternoon tea and their love for each other’s vocals. They’re yet to post any recording so you’ll have to go and see what they’ve got for yourself.
