We are all too smashed to write a proper intro to this top 3 cos we’ve been paying homage to our amazing local music scene at the most Notts-tastic DOT TO DOT ever… You know what to do…
GIG ONE
Notts In A Nutshell Presents
Says exactly what’s on the tin! Notts in a Nutshell, on Tuesday 5th June at The Maze. If the Sounds of Rock/Metal sends you on cloud 9, then head down to The Maze for this brilliant gig!
Are you ready for the sounds of hard heavy screamo?? If your answer is ARGGHH yesss, then you are going to love PULL THE TRIGGER’s performance. With a mix mash of heavy bass lines, thrashy drums and powerful gothic vocals, this band is set to hit the scene by storm.
Their music truly is a head banger!
4 piece alternative blues band THE TURNCOATS is setting the trend for classic Rock n Roll in Nottingham! With influences from THE KINKS and THE WHO, it is evident that THE TURNCOATS love listening as well as playing good ‘ol British Rock n Roll. We recommend that you join the party.
An unusual mix of African Indie Pop music! It’s the one and only [drum roll please] THE FRIENDLY SPARTANS – trust me, this 3 piece band will cater to your Indie cravings. With influence from the likes of VAMPIRE WEEKEND, ELVIS and JASON MRAZ, The Friendly Spartans will rock your night with their lively spirited charisma.
Also performing will be SAM WILSON

GIG TWO
Next we the WIRE AND WOOL Mini Festival at The Alley Cafe on Thursday June 7th.
This line up is a beauitful jumble of awesome bands, wicked beatboxers, bluesy solo acts and burlesque girls…what more d’you want from a night out?
10.55 – At the peak of the epic line up is SKARABUSH Nottingham premier party band that will have you partying harder than Charlie Sheen on a stag do with Chuck Norris. Expect to be treated to ska, blues and even a bit of latin in this entertainment monster of a band.
10.00 – TIMOTHY J SIMPSON began his career at 12 years old playing punk, then funk, then odd electronica, before rejecting the whole lot for music that he can make with just his hands, his voice and and the words in his head (some would say voices).
This unfairly talented singer/songwriter’s tunes are mostly skewed kitchen sink tales about modern morality, the individual’s place in society and the crushing inhumanity of the workplace.
In 2009 he released his debut album “Our glorious hero battles the man”, and released a follow up – “You’ll be alright in Flordia”, in December 2011. He will backed up with his band THE MONSTROUS DEAD who are one of the most engaging live bands on the planet… powered by pure soul.
9.15 – “D.H LAWRENCE AND THE VAUDEVILLIAN SKIFFLE SHOW come from the green hills and valleys of ‘Lawrence country’. Some say the these fellas have spent too long in the woods drinking moonshine! Mean and moody, they can break your heart (Ketamine Kate, When I Fly) or skiffle you to submission with their high octane drinking & songs of deathly demise (White Jesus, Penn Station) . . . . it’s a kind of “UpNoirthicana” . . . . Psycho-skiiffle through to lo-fi Country/Folk sung by men of the woods . . . If they are not singing hanging songs in the darkness of the trees, then they’re picking mushrooms or elderberries and sloes to make ruby red liquour to help them through the deep darkness of winter . . . Light a candle, sip some moonshine liquour and enjoy!” We’re not quite sure what the hell this show is but it sounds fucking awesome!
8.30 – RIFF BASTARD are on of those bands that you discover one day and think WHY HAVEN’T I FOUND THESE BEFORE?! With quite possibly the best band name in the history of the universe their riff heavy, groove laden, no bullshit hard rock will smash your mind into pieces, these guys have been sent a on a personal mission from the god of rock himself under strict instructions to go and Rock some shows….either that or its all one big midlife crisis manifesting itself in the form of a band.
You decide.
Mean while all this gluttonous entertainment is kicking off downstairs, there will be more stuff going on upstairs including THE ACCORDIAN MAN at 9.00 and the man who puts the “pil” and the “grim” in the PILGRIM FATHERS Neil Gregory. Mr Gregory is a “whisky sodden red bearded bastard of man who likes nothing more than whipping dogs and decking bears” …wow we want to know this guy. Expect a brutally bluesy set. At 10.10pm beatboxer LEE TABIX will be dropping some beat bombs and from 10.30 onwards MOTORMOUF and friends will be keeping the night going .

GIG THREE
Not only being one of the most well-renowned but also one of the most generous Record labels in Nott’s, GRINGO RECORDS have decided to shower you with not one but TWO DAYS worth of incredible music as it celebrates being an incredible 15 years young.
Don’t let the name fool you – the members of GREY HAIRS are far from reaching for the knitting needles and rocking chairs. Armed with a give-it-all-or-nothing attitude to their music, GREY HAIRS’s are an up-and-coming hidden gem that will hook you with their infectious approach to life. If you need any more proof, they secured a much sought-after slot at this year’s Dot to Dot and are set to storm the stage and rustle the masses once again.
Next up, get ready to embrace the lesser-known art of air punching as FISTS take to the stage with a raging musical assault. Having returned to Nott’s with open arms after a whirlwind Tour, FISTS have performed with suitable energy and flair alongside the likes of CANTALOUPE and KAGOULE at a LeftLion gig recently and this gig is set to raise the bar for live shows once again!
Combining an unusual blend of fuzzed-out psychedelic garage-rock with more soothing elements, eclectic three-piece KOGUMAZA add their woven tapestry of musical genres to the mix. With its members having previously played in bands such as WOLVES OF GREECE and SAVOY GRAND, KOGUMAZA have plenty of experience behind them and this is sure to add a serious dose of colour to their performance.
A gig of many different musical depths with the line-up consisting of several more bands from further afield, this is going to be a corker!
