Ola kids. I know everyone would much rather be somewhere hot with a lovely pool and a cocktail in hand. But at least there are three really freaking good gigs to take your mind off not being on your hols. There’s a headline show at The Bodega, a single launch at JT Soar and a festival at the Canalhouse.
FRIDAY
MOWBECK have had a huge couple of weeks and their Grit Pop has got a whole lot grittier. They released their huge new track ‘The Basement’ which got on the Radio 1 playlist as BBC Introducing Track of the Week. This week they’re going on tour and bringing it home to Notts with a headline show at The Bodega.
Support comes from the dreamy CHERRY HEX AND THE DREAM CHURCH. If you haven’t heard them before (you don’t read the top 3 very often) it says it all in the name. It’s like a semantic field of words to describe their music.
The Bodega
Friday 7th July
Doors: 7pm
Entry: £5.50
FRIDAY
BABE PUNCH are having a party for their HUGE new single ‘Control’ at their spiritual home, JT Soar. The single has all of BABE PUNCH’s classic elements thrown into one epic song with more energy than Yellowstone supervolcano (you know – that err, super powerful volcano in America) and it’s just as likely to blow up.
Support comes from their equally as talented pals THE SHRIVES. They’ve had love from Rock Sound, NME and Kerrang! Who compared them to somewhere between Johnny Cash and Violent Femmes.
THE VARLETTS are also supporting. They’re in this there top 3 every other week at the minute, consistently playing high quality gigs with their awesome alternative sound.
CAMERON SINCLAIR HARRIS will also be bringing his beaut sounds to the old fruit and veg warehouse. The Beeston boy’s Indie Folk is filled with an upbeat sound and rather juxtaposing lyrics.
JT Soar
Friday 7th July
Doors: 7pm
Entry: £4 otd
SATURDAY
The Waterfront Festival is back for another year thanks to I’m Not From London and Audacious Face Music. This year, the chosen charities The Roy Stone Foundation and NUH Cystic Fibrosis Centre will get all the profits.
There are three stages – The Leftlion Stage, The Under The Tree Stage and The Gigantic Stage – which have bloody loads of Notts musicians. So I’m gonna tell you about the headliner for each stage, but there’s every genre imaginable playing so get ur butts there.
Headlining the Leftlion stage are HALLOUMINATI. They’ve not played a gig in Notts for a while but they’re back from the land of greek cheesy heaven with their ‘GypsyElectroSkaBalkanGreekPunk Mashup.’
UNKNOWN ERA will be shouting ‘FUCK THE TORIES’ as loud as their lungs will allow, which is pretty fucking loud. Their live performances might leave you feeling knackered but you’re not gonna forget it. Catch them headlining the Gigantic stage and get all that angst out your system.
If you’re fond of some good ol’ Country, THE MOST UGLY CHILD are headlining the Under The Tree stage. The six piece will leave you feeling like you’ve just stepped out a little shack of a bar in mid western America.
Canalhouse Bar
