GIG ONE
Get your moshing face on…it’s WIDOWS and IN ISOLATION at Rock City Basment on Saturday the 4th of August.
Stoner rockers WIDOWS first full length CD ‘Death Valley Duchess’ is face-meltingly heavy and you can be assured that Rock City will be shaking like a smackhead gone cold turkey. Personal favourite track ‘Goat Lab’ has the tempo and destructiveness of a runaway steam train ploughing through a dynamite factory. You can check it out on our Podcast HERE. Let’s open up this pit.
Support comes from Noir Wave Indie outfit IN ISOLATION. We don’t know what Noir Wave means either but apparently it’s something to do with being French and liking black. Mixing 80’s new-wave synth with soft punk undertones, this band are well worth seeing live and trying not to dance to them is like trying not to lick your lips after munching on doughnuts.
Doors: 10pm
Tickets: £3 Adv (Including free entry to Hey Hey Hey afterwards)
GIG TWO
It’s baaaack! A Nottingham treasure, the annual Riverside Festival returns this weekend offering you three days of entertainment, including live music from some of our finest.
Saturday 4th.
INDIANA
There really is no stopping INDIANA! Her mesmerising vocals and beauty to match keep us fans longing for more. She’s already made her name in Ol’ Blighty as the most talked about unsigned artist of the moment and now she’s doing the same across the pond in the USofA. One of the hottest Notts names around, catch her here while you can.
TOM WARDLE
No stranger to the stage, TOM WARDLE will be stepping up to the mic to make you swoon. Having come a valiant second place in this year’s Future Sound of Nottingham competition (and breaking several ear drums due to fan’s sceams) this singer-songwriter will charm the audience with his suave guitar pop. Keep your ears peeled for fan-fave ‘Pink Lillies’.
NINA SMITH
The lovely NINA SMITH will be taking stage to give you a taste of her incredible talent. She absolutely wowed fans on the LeftLion Stage at Splendour with her soft but powerful vocals (a particular highlight being her rendition of REM’s ‘Everybody Hurts’ complete with gospel choir) and promises to do the same here. At the core of the Nottingham soul scene, NINA SMITH will sing her way into your heart if she hasn’t already.
ROB GREEN
Having pulled in the biggest crowd on the Leftlion stage at this year’s Splendour, is there any wonder why we’re all going mad for ROB GREEN?! One of the most engaging performers we’ve ever seen, his funky blend of old-school soul with R&B touches is always delivered with heaps of charisma and energy. With the seal of approval from Radio1xtra now under his belt too, ROB GREEN is surely not one too miss. You can check out his Future Session with us HERE.
THE MONEY
Last year’s Future Sound of Nottingham champions THE MONEY hit the stage next. Slick and stylish, these indie rockers know how to draw in the crowd and leave them screaming for more with contagious choruses, bopping beats and some serious swagger. Churning out potential hits like there’s no tomorrow, THE MONEY are on their way to big things.
Sunday 5th
THE GOLDEN TROUBADOURS
Celebrate the final day of the festival by indulging yourself in acoustic sensations THE GOLDEN TROUBADOURS. With soulful songs made up of layered atmospheric guitars, melodic bass lines and the soaring vocals of Matthew Taylor, THE GOLDEN TROUBADOURS are completely captivating and not to be missed.
MUHA
One of the most eclectic bands we’ve ever encountered and semi-finalists in last year’s FSN,MUHA are the final local act of Riverside 2012. Combining the melodic elegance of Eastern European Folk, North Indian Kathak rhythms and Cuban beats all tied together with Western European influences, these guys are impossible to label so we’re not even gonna try. With undeniable stage presence and musicianship, MUHA are as good live as they are on record. Don’t miss out!

GIG THREE
With one of the most tantalisingly good lineups for an event we’ve ever had the pleasure to write about, Sounddhism returns for its 2nd Birthday Summer Special at The Bodega! ROYAL GALA
Proving that good things don’t necessarily come in small packages, 9-piece super band ROYAL GALA are headlining this guaranteed explosive event. If you enjoy a dash of diversity in your music, this band will tick all your boxes as they are an electrifying blend of funk, ska, reggae, dub, latin and electro swing. Not many groups could pull off such a mash-up and still sound completely solid, yet ROYAL GALA do it with ease. Get ready to dance until the early hours!
25 PAST THE SKANK
As their name suggests, 25 PAST THE SKANK have a rave on their agenda. Well known for their boundary-pushing aesthetic and energetic live performances, the bands deep synthy bass-lines, raw brass hooks and gritty breakbeats will shake your core and make you sweat. WARNING: Not for pansies or delicate wallflowers.
Ps. We’re STILL waiting on that demo you scallies!
HANNAH HEARTSHAPE
Dubbing her sound ‘Bluestalgia’ (that’s Blues and nostalgia complete with a sprinkle of jazz), HANNAH HEARTSHAPE’s retro sound will be bringing a sultry calm to the night’s proceedings. Adding a full backing band to emphasise her jazz roots, this set is going to have more than a touch of Amy Winehouse to it and will be a complete indulgence for your ears.
HARLEIGHBLU
Having given her her first play and Future Session back in the days of Notts Unsigned, HARLEIGHBLU is now one of the hottest up-and-coming names. A unique blend of new-school soul, dirty funk beats and a voice that will raise the hairs on the back of your neck, HARLEIGHBLU creates a sound both classic and streets ahead of its time. With her debut album produced by Notts’ own Joe Buhdha on the horizon, this fiery songstress is destined for greatness.
ILL CITIZEN
Next to the mic and hoping to ‘spread some tunes and vibes’ are ILL CITIZEN. Having made a name for themselves as Notts urban giants, ILL CITIZEN will be bringing some dutty bass to the night and with tunes that showcase their winning combination of banging beats, quality rhymes and the slickest production, be prepared to get grimey.
JIMMY THE SQUIRREL
Whatever the weather, JIMMY THE SQUIRREL will get you in that summer feelin’. Bringing a fresh mix of ska and reggae with heavy rock undertones, these furry little fellas deliver fun-filled sets, infectious melodies and buckets of charisma all for your gigging pleasure. Catch Nottingham’s musical marauder Jody Betts of JIMMY THE SQUIRREL and TRAY ELECTRIC in ROYAL GALA later on the bill too.
GEORGIE ROSE
One of the most exquisite performers we have to offer, GEORGIE ROSE will inevitably stun her crowd into an awed silence. Armed only with her Laura Marling-esque vocals and delicate guitar accompaniment, this 17 year old takes it back to basics, showcasing beautiful simplicity in her performances. A star in the making, Georgie will be playing Hyde Park for the Olympics AND has recently won the Nottingham leg of the Peace Mix Rally giving her the chance to play the legendary Eden Project. Check out her Future Session with us HERE.
