We’re stuck in dark dingy February and payday still seems miles away; luckily for you, there are some real fun, free, and cheap gigs to brighten this week up.

FRIDAY

Pulling you into the weekend is the thought-provoking ‘Theinterlude, a night of music and poetry’. The concept of this night is all about the escapism that music and poetry allow us to have from everyday life, which is becoming increasingly necessary. Essentially, it is a getaway/retreat from real life to which you are cordially invited! The lineup is jam-packed with diversity, artists from GARTON to ZAIM are on the bill, plus loads more. Singers, poets, spoken word artists, instrumentalists, rappers, you name it – they’re here. It’s very likely to sell out on the night so avoid disappointment and get yer tickets soon.

Tickets and full lineup HERE.

FRIDAY

If you head down to The Chameleon, you can find a great new Notts band playing live for the first time! NACTUS KUNAN from Beeston are bringing their dreamy vocals and super slick guitar lines to the people of Notts. It sounds like the kind of thing you’d hear in a romantic scene between two teenagers in some 80s film. But awesome. Defining themselves as ‘Alt-cosmic RnB’, this four piece look like they have a pretty cool future ahead. With only two songs out in the world so far, we’re looking forward to seeing what else they have to offer. Oh, and they’ve also coined the term ‘R n Beeston’. Amazing.

Before that is Electro-Pop duo, PRYSMS. With stripped back Electro-pop sounds, there’s an almost tropical, calypso sound to their music, which will definitely distract you from miserable February.  Make sure you’re down early for some groovin’ all over the Chameleon floooooor.

SATURDAY

I’m Not From London are bringing a free night of Rock, Punk and Garage to your eardrums (you’re welcome).

First up is DIABLOFURS who list their inspirations as “life, accidents, death, art, sex, wine” (reckon the best music is inspired by wine tbh). This raw Post-Punk / New Wave outfit brought out their new tune ‘Sweet Janine’ not too long ago which just sits perfectly at two and half minutes with a whole lot of anger and frustration packed in. Get ready for some guitar breakdowns, some smashed up drums, and a whole lot of fun!

Bringing a bit of rock and roll from Notts, is MINATORE (pronounced mino-tour-ray, not like that beastly beast from Greek legends). Defined as Punk Grunge Garage Rock, they sound raw, unvarnished and totally original. If you get down early enough you’ll get to see Pettigrew’s gangly limbs flying all over the drum kit and Keeling jumping around like a loon and just them generally tearing up the place. Sounds good to us!

Heavy duty gothic band, Chambers, from Hull/Leeds are also playing.
