It’s a bit bloody hot, init? Think you’ll need a nice cool pint or three to cool you down. D’ya know what goes down well with a nice cool pint? Some really bloody good local music to soothe your sunburnt ears. Good job there’s three amazing gigs this week then.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday sees the first Polygon Alternative Music night take place at Spanky’s and it’s definitely kicking off with a strong af line up.

Get your head banging helmets at the ready (safety first kids), first up are SUPER FURNITURE. The band’s funk filled, groove feeling, Indie Rock alongside their captivatingly expressive performance makes for an incredible live set.

If you’re in need of an Indie Pop banger, look no further than the VEGA BAY boys. Their uplifting and insanely catchy, euphoric sound is perfect for all this hot weather. It’s a good job you held onto those head banging helmets too, you’ll probs need them for these and all.

THE VARLETTS will be playing their 7894th gig of the year at Spanky’s. They’re a busy bunch of bees, constantly gigging and working on new material. Their new single ‘Spiral Staircase’ shows their raw, lo-fi alternative sound.

And last but certainly not least, you can catch THE CHASE. The St Ann’s lads have been together for 10 years this year, with a perfected on stage chemistry making for some beaut Indie Rock.

Also performing are REQS from Derby.

FRIDAY

JIMI MACK is launching his debut solo EP ‘Familiar Horizons’ at Rough Trade on Friday night. Jimi is originally from Belfast but has moved to Notts cause, well Notts is great? He has just released a video for the lead track of the new EP, ‘Salao’. It’s a bit odd. It features lots of very well dressed men at a tea party with Jimi’s own brand rum (I think). And the song is super nice too.

BURNT PAW calls his music style ‘Oral History et Fingerstyle Guitar’ and it’s bloody beautiful. He’s apparently originally from Birmingham, but I can’t quite tell if that’s UK or US, and now lives in Notts. But regardless, his guitar playing will leave you in awe.

Also supporting are Felix M-B from Derby and Arthur Cunnington from Melton Mowbray.

SATURDAY

TACO HELL are headlining The Bodega on Saturday. No Biggie. Also no biggie, they got two plays on a lil station called Radio 1 within 10 days last week. As well as having a great name, they have some beaut ‘Dreamo Punx’ tracks.

Support comes from, CHERRY HEX AND THE DREAM CHURCH who release their new single Toska tomorrow (Monday 19th). I’ve had a sneak peek and it sounds incredible. Toska translates to ‘sadness’ in Russian and in typical Cherry Hex style, they’ve made the melancholic sound utterly beautiful.

You can see, MOUNTAIN SCHMOUNTAIN, an Alt Rock four piece, originally from Cannock but have moved up to Notts. They released their album ‘Skate Chills’ last August and it’s Pop Punktastic.

Finally, SET YOUR OWN BONES are ‘trying to over-complicate three chord pop punk.’ They went off the radar for a bit but have been doing a couple of gigs recently and we can’t wait to hear more.
