THE IDOLINS. Photo Credit: Unknown
Is it just me or is September flying by? It seems like yesterday we were all soaking up some summer rays with a few (too many) beers. Now, as October approaches with the start of uni and the treacherous weather we’ve had this week, one thing is sure – WINTER IS COMING!!! Luckily for us, there’s an awesome selection of gigs this week to ease the transition.
FRIDAY
THE IDOLINS were born after members Karen Smalley and Claudine West met at an acoustic night in Notts. 15 years later, the band are performing at Nottingham Contemporary to mark the occasion as well as the launch of their latest EP ‘Hunting for the Fifth’. Expect everything from melodic guitars and strings to hypnotic stories that usher in the autumn. Speaking of seasons, their latest single, titled ‘Seasons’ (funnily enough), has an awesome music video available here for your viewing pleasure.
Also joining THE IDOLINS is ADAM PETER SMITH. Adam’s folksy acoustic guitar tunes are filled with interesting textures that give a little more with each listen. He’ll also be launching his own EP ‘Songs for Dreamers’ at Nottingham Contemporary on September 30th.
You can also catch Isembard’s Wheel from Sheffield.
Nottingham Contemporary
Friday 22nd September

FRIDAY
Acoustickle are back this week for the last of September’s sessions at Saltbox, with a selection of exceptionally talented artists. RED SEA will be making their Acoustickle debut, with what I’m coining ‘Millennial Jazz’- a unique blend of chilled electric guitars, female vocals and jazz of past, present and future- you heard it here first, folks! #trademarked.
Winners of Nottingham’s Top Talent 2017 competition, LADY ROSE are also making an appearance. The duo combine acoustic guitar riffs with frontwoman Joanne Lovatt’s soulful voice and pack a serious musical punch.
PAUL NOSE will also be adding a bluesy edge to the evening with an earthy, gritty sound that only comes from the best blues rock artists. PAUL NOSE should be listened to with a tumbler of whiskey in hand and a Gibson Les Paul on standby**

FRIDAY
Last in this week’s selection is the second edition of Winter-Wear for the Homeless, brought to you by Tune Crush. The gig offers the opportunity to enjoy great music whilst raising money for a very worthy cause. All money raised will be used to buy thick socks, gloves and hats for the homeless around Nottingham this winter.
BABE PUNCH will be bringing in the crowds with energetic punk rock that brings out the inner mosher from even the most mild-mannered of rock enthusiasts. They’ll be playing tunes from their recent release, ‘Stanford’, which is out now.
FOULE are also making an appearance to soothe your soul with psychedelic guitars and harmonies that are reminiscent of Mac DeMarco. We’ll be seeing much more of these guys on the Notts music scene I’m sure <3.
Baby Names from Leeds and Arches from Chesterfield will also be performing.
P.S. If you can’t make it down to this one but would still like to make a contribution, you can do so here –
