There’s something for every musical taste this week in Nottingham. There’s a Grime event for 11-17 year olds at the Hillview Community Centre, a headline show filled with harmonies at The Bodega and an Americana Blues EP Launch at Rough Trade.

GIG ONE

The Hillview Community Centre have rounded up some of the best names in the Nottingham Grime scene so you can get some advice from the artists. The event is for 11-17 year olds to help inspire them and potentially bring some more great Grime names out of the city. These lot are really putting Nottingham on the map in the world of Grime. On the night you’ll be able to catch MEZ who released his ‘28 EP’ back in May. He’ll be bringing along SNOWY who features on MEZ’s EP on the song ‘Nottingham Crew 1-2’ and has worked with him on loads of other tracks as well on his own. DDOT has worked with tons of Grime artists over the past few years, and developed a slick flow of his own (as showcased on latest single ‘#Leicester2Nottingham.’) YOUNG T & BUGSY released their mixtape ‘Jumpman’ at the start of October and have clocked up nearly 100,000 views on YouTube. Bigging up the Notts area code, 0115 MOB will be playing at the event. And finally ASSEZ CREW will be there. They may have some of the youngest members but, trust me, they have just as much talent.

GIG TWO

THESE YOUR CHILDREN (formerly known as NOAH) are headlining The Bodega on Wednesday. The duo made up of Rebekah and Joe released their debut EP ‘Fires’ last week after a what felt like a very long time, but it was oh so worth it. Creating beautiful, soothing harmonies with voices that complement each other better than fish and chips. Layering their incredible voices, that sound just as beautiful individually as they do together, all over Acoustic Folk with relatable songwriting. They’ll be releasing their debut video for ‘Set A Fire’ next week, so keep an eye out for that if you want a teaser of what to expect.

JOEL BAKER will be supporting. Taking influence from Hip Hop and Bluesy Folk, Joel creates soulful sounds with beautiful lyrics telling of falling in love. Plus, he just debuted some songs on his soundcloud of him spitting bars, so hopefully he’ll showcase that on the night!

Felix MB from Derby will also be supporting on the night.

GIG THREE

Bringing a touch of Americana to the Nottingham music scene, RYAN FARMER is launching his new EP ‘Lurch’ at Rough Trade on Saturday. The 21 year old takes influence from Folk and Blues from the other side of the Atlantic. With lyrics telling stories of “whiskey, women and worries” through his gravelly toned voice and soulful guitar, Ryan creates a contemporary take on the genre.

Support comes from the Beeston Blues boy JOE BARBER (that’s a lot of ‘b’s’). Joe puts an acoustic spin on Blues music with catchy lyrics and an Americana twang that will get your foot tapping. You may have seen Joe making up half of Country Folk duo MIDNIGHT SPECIALS.

ALEXA HAWKSWORTH will be supporting too. Alexa’s Acoustic Pop infused with Folk is influenced from artists including Laura Marling and First Aid Kit. Her powerful voice and poetic lyrics create beautiful music. Make sure you keep an eye out for Alexa’s Future Session which is out tomorrow too!
