Another killer seven days for the Nottingham music scene this week, with a comedy EP launch, a Hip-Hop/Electronic love fest and an Indie half-dayer!

GIG ONE

This Thursday, Nottingham’s legendary MRS GREEN is back to liven up The Bodega, accompanied by her “swagger band” THE RIZZLAS’ for the launch of her first spectacular E.P.

You’ll definitely know MRS GREEN if you’ve seen her. Sporting an oddly hairy set of legs for her age, MRS GREEN is one of the funniest comedy acts that Nottingham has ever seen. Do yourself a favour and do a bit of search on YouTube to see what she’s all about – you won’t regret it!

The whole project is a massive Notts lovefest – a collaborative effort of Notts creatives, featuring a band full of local musicians from the legendary CRS studios in St. Anns, as well as songwriting from ROB GREEN, YOUTHORACLE and many more. Jamie Joseph from Derby will also be supporting on the night.

GIG TWO

This Friday, we’ve got some of Nottingham’s finest Hip-Hop talent supporting Paper Tiger (who are from Leeds), at The Maze.

Firstly we would like to give a massive big up to the 1ST BLOOD empire, after the release of over twelve albums they continue to seriously turn the heat up on the Nottingham Hip-Hop scene. This Friday you can catch the streetwise Hip-Hop poets as they return to The Maze doing what they do best. This is sure to be a banger!

One of Nottingham’s finest Electronic music producers, TRAY ELECTRIC will be showcasing his carefully crafted Electronica. The live sets are both uplifting and reflective conveying elements of melodic bliss, clever sound trickery and driving bass lines – so basically you may have a bit of a reflection during your boogie.

The musical love child of Tim Laverack and Gavin Kirtly, OPDOT blends an emotive melodic mixture of melody, texture and mood. Their intricate beats and development of thematic material within classical structures/forms, synthesizers and acoustic timbres creates their signature sound. So, in short, these guys make something proper unique, and that’s bound to intrigue.

GIG THREE

This Saturday, The Maze will be hosting an early evening of Indie bliss, with plenty of local talent to whet your appetite.

Opening the night is BAD RAPTOR who claim that they play “zesty, zainy music that will really get your blood pumping and your testicles quaking” Unfortunately being a woman I do not have access to the male gonad, however with that in mind this is surely to be an interesting live set.

They’ll be shortly followed by THE CHASE; known for their high-spirited sets the three-piece combine a youthful mixture of Brit-Pop with plenty of Rock ‘N’ Roll swagger. Next to take the stage is BLEACH who will bring a bit of a heavier sound, inspired by the likes of Nirvana and Alkaline Trio the band convey similar grungy riffs stylings to their idols, and they pay a pretty good homage!

BLUE VULTURE will showcase a lively set of catchy Indie Rock and feel good anthems, and we’re sure they’ll play plenty from their ace EP “Amateur Tape Recording.” >THE TANGENTS bring some classic Indie Rock ‘N’ Roll, with plenty of catchy choruses, relatable lyrics and more swagger than Snoop Dogg at a Gallagher brothers house party.

Headlining the night are THE MITHERED who bring traditional Indie stylings whilst still keeping a totally unique sound. Prepare for a mashup of picky riffs, gutsy vocals and catchy melodies that are bound to end the evening on a high.

The Thieves from Derby will also be performing.
