LAST SONS. Photo Credit: Roger Jones

It’s very much February now which means artists all over the place are starting to proper do that gigging thing again! There’s gigs going off all over Notts this week, and there’s a proper diverse mix to get yer musical teeth sunk into.

THURSDAY

Get down to Rough Trade to see LAST SONS perform live with their US brother Uncommon Nasa. LAST SONS is made up of rapper Duke01 and Furious P the frenzied turntablist, and what they’re going to show you will probably blow your mind a little bit. Uncommon Nasa are over all the way from New York, and seeing as they have produced LAST SONS tracks and featured on them, it will probably be like a belated valentine’s day as you watch two acts that belong together, do their thing! Big things.

TY HEALY is up pre LAST SONS, delivering his eclectic mix of Hip-Hop. Easily switching up from chill Electronic beats, to more classic Hip-Hop, this guy can vocally work over anything. A true poet, Ty’s words will get ya intrigued, provoked, and keep ya engaged throughout his whole set.

DJ support is coming from Archive (Kemet FM) and Lethargy (Kold Chillin’).

THURSDAY / FRIDAY

Also this week is County Youth Arts’ Showcase 2017! It’s all about displaying Nottingham’s young talent, across the musical genres, and other creative outlets (dance / spoken word etc). It should be an extra special night actually – as County Youth Arts celebrates it’s 20th year on this planet in 2017. The inspiring ABLE ORCHESTRA will be showcasing their talent, as an open group of young people with disabilities, who have used programmes such as Garageband and Ableton to create stunning sounds and visions. When they played BBC Proms last year it was something beautiful. And now, they’ve had some musical guidance from RONIKA, SI TEW and loads more. It’s sure to be a blissful, heart-warming evening.

SATURDAY

Saturday brings with it an absolute monster of a show, with a killer line up, and it’s all for free! Yes, you did see that right. All you have to do is click that old attending button on Facebook (that you usually click just to make yourself look cool), but now it actually gets you entry! Finishing the night will be the psych-ey five piece Beach for Tiger all the way from the Big Smoke.

Next up are CHERRY HEX AND THE DREAM CHURCH (to clear everything up; the singer is not called Cherry and there is no church, it is two lovely humans called Maddy and Alex). With ambience all around and Maddys enticing vocals swimming around, and a xylophone sprinkled about, these guys are bringing a whole new side to ‘Notts atmos pop’ (I’ve coined that, shotgun). It’ll all be absolutely gorgeous is what I’m trying to say, so definitely don’t miss these two!

Having just put on a killer performance for their FS, VEGA BAY are bringing up the rear with their beautiful Summer-stained Pop. With absolute dance anthems like ‘Drench’ to the more melancholic ‘Sometimes It Rains’, catchy melodies and gorgeous vocals will permeate your eardrums and keep your feet moving throughout.

THREE GIRL RHUMBA are also on board to deliver all the catchy jangliness you could ever need. Curious as to what ‘catchy jangliness’ is? Well, ya better get down and see then ain’t ya? Little hint – you’re gonna be in love with the way these guys play their guitars. And if you’re not doing a happy jig to it, well, you have failed at gigging.
