Summer’s here and it’s a really good excuse to go and listen to some incredible live local music. Good job we’ve got three really good gigs lined up. There’s a Folky headline show at Rough Trade, a charity packed festival over in Kimberley and an 80s inspired headline show at The Chameleon.
THURSDAY
THE IDOLINS are headlining Rough Trade on Thursday. Their beautifully delicate Folk and Acoustic Pop will leave your heart in need of some TLC with all the heartstrings the band will be pulling on. From singer Karen’s warming vocal and storytelling lyrics to the gorgeous mix of a mandolin, banjo, guitar and cello.
Support comes from whisky and interpretative dance loving MELISSA DANIAL-WARD (she says she will accept both in payment for her incredible music). Melissa’s new track ‘For Now’ will make your ears fall in love with her soothing vocal and stunning lyrics.
Kezia Gill from Derby is also supporting.

The Kimberley Jam is back again this year, with stages across all the pubs and bars in Kimberley and it’s all in aid of The Ryan Lee Trust, providing support to children and teenagers diagnosed with brain tumors.
There are tons of acts across loads of stages. So here’s one act from most of the stages.
First up, THE COLLIDERS are on at The Lord Clyde. After only playing their first gig a year ago, their traditional four piece band set up showcases catchy riffs, impressive bass and drums with a vocal reminiscent of Alex Turner in the early Arctic Monkeys days.
WARREN IRELAND is performing at The Stag Inn. Warren’s voice, backed by his loop pedal are a formidable force, making noisy acoustic Folky Indie Pop.
TORI SHEARD will be bringing her stunning vocal to the Roots Emporium. She’s been gigging for over a year and has perfected her acoustic performances with her subtle guitar playing harmonising with her soft voice.
You can catch the shy and retiring FRANKIE VACUUM at the Cricketers Rest. He’s got a song called ‘Kanye’s Vest’ explaining why Kanye will never be president cos of his choice of vest and one called ‘Anna Soubry’s Fish Pie’ which is funnily enough about Anna Soubry’s Fish Pie.
Following STACEY MCMULLEN’s EP Launch the other week, he’ll be performing at the Nelson & Railway on Saturday. But don’t expect him to play music from his EP, at Dot to Dot he ended up playing four slots each focusing on a different genre (“Irish, Blues, Latin and Dark Shit”).

IN ISOLATION’s debut album ‘A Certain Fractal Light’ received praise from BBC 6 Music, played on The One Show and was even dubbed ‘New Wave Album of the Year.’ Their headline show at The Chameleon on Saturday will see them perform songs from the New Wave, 80s influenced album as well as performing some new material.
They’ll be supported by the female powerhouse YOU WANT FOX. Their adrenaline pumped, Grungey Rock has sass oozing at the seams. They’ve been sharing their drum heavy, Pop influenced sounds with LA, the Netherlands and everywhere in between.
ZADKIEL will be sharing their haunting, extra terrestrial inspired music. The mysterious four piece are a Prog Rock Alt band who take influence from H.R Giger (the dude who designed Alien) and William Blake, making for a dark, euphoric and apocalyptic sound.
