What up Comrades!
Recovered from Freshers’ week yet? Want more action? Get yourselves down to these 3 gigs then!
Kicking us off this week is the Glastonbudget Auditions at The Maze on Tuesday 4th October.
SATNAM’S TASH will be up first playing their humourous, fast, punky sounds to the Maze crowd. I saw these guys do an Acoustic set the other week and they had the whole room giggling away to their set.
THE GOLDEN TROUBADOURS are also playing this fresh from their EP launch. Expect a variation of beautiful melodies to fly around the room with the odd slide guitar here and there, complimented nicely by soulful vocals.
SOFA KING are a three-piece “Scientist Rock” outfit with upbeat catchy lyrics and cheerful Jazz melodies. They are taking on the competition with tracks from their new Sofa King Tape EP which has lots of positive reviews under its belt.
Also competing are newcomers SLAM DOUBT, who fit nicely into the thriving Hardcore/Punk category. Setting standards high by listing their influences as cult bands NOFX and Rise Against, and promising “sweet music, again and again”. Oh, go on then.
Indie rockers RUCKUS will be proving their worth with modern, catchy tracks which have earned them a following on the Nottingham pub circuit over the past three years. Think Oasis meets the Libertines and you are almost there.
Doors: 7:30pm
Tickets: £4
Next up we have Framework’s Raise The Roof at Spanky Van Dykes on Wednesday 5th October.
INJURED BIRDS are on first and if you haven’t heard of them yet, check them out on our Nusic New Music Podcast 008. We liked them so much we played them twice as part of our Rewind. Their music is as warm and endearing as the feeling you get when you listen to them.
OLDBOY are gonna shake up Spanky’s next with their energy-fuelled set. They pump out loud, catchy riffs that can get any head banging, just don’t pull any muscles!
THE EVILTONES are last on the bill but don’t take that name literally because I think their tones are quite nice. Toe-tapping rhythms mixed with strong vocals, that’s nice right?
Doors: 8pm
Tickets: £3
Our final shout out is for GOLD SKIES AHEAD playing at The Intake Club, Mansfield on Friday 7th October.
These four energetic guys on the Hardcore/Metal scene have gained a big following after forming just this year. First single Green My Eyes, recorded with producer Justin Hill (who has worked with Young Guns, Enter Shikari and Rise to Remain) was released last week and is already being raved about.
Check them out if you want to hear aggressive riffs with infectious melodies and essentially have your ears melted off. In a good way.
Doors: 7pm
