‘Ello comrades! This is your last week of peace and quiet before Nottingham is rocked by the Freshers, so enjoy it and get yourself down to these gigs!

Acoustic Sessions at the Golden Fleece on Thursday 22nd.

Another strong line up from the guys behind the Acoustic Sessions!

ALEX HEL will open the night with a (softly) bang, shouting and strumming about dinosaurs and lighthouses. This guy has an awesome voice and he clearly practices his in-between-song banter in the bathroom mirror.

DANIEL CLIFFE will play his first Notts gig since coming back for uni so don’t miss him! He studies Creative Writing at Trent which certainly shows through in his crafty lyrics.

3 EYED FOX will have you all stomping your feet and ‘woop’ing at them like no Notts act before. With 1 violinist, 1 guitarist and 1 vocalist they blend gypsy, folky sounds with upbeat, fun rhythms and they can turn the grumpiest of cynics into minions of their music.

Doors: 8:30pm

This Friday (23rd) head over to Arnold to the Horse and Jockey for PAPERCAPE, FUNKASAW and BAND OF JACKALS.

BAND OF JACKALS will open the night performing their mish mash of bluesy rock. They look cool, they act cool and they are cool so jump on the band (of jackals) wagon!

FUNKASAW are funnnnkkky. Mixing rock, jazz and blues together, they pronounce themselves the tallest three piece in Nottingham. I guess you’ll have to see for yourselves!

PAPERCAPE are headlining this awesome Arnold show. Starting out as just an Acoustic act, lead singer Dan decided to get a band in order to take part in Batte of the Bands and so…PAPERCAPE were born. What a beautiful musical birth!

If you’re more of a townie or a city dweller, and you want to save yourself a bus fare, you might prefer to watch BLIND CAVES, YUNIOSHI and SWIMMING support Love Inks at The Rescue Rooms on the same Friday.

BLIND CAVES embrace the fact that they are different saying “but that’s what makes it tick along nicely”. They take influences from Sigur Ros and Radiohead, which you can definitely hear in the relaxed vocals. We’re looking forward to catching these!

YUNIOSHI describe themselves as “Alternative Breakbeat Rock” which in their dictionary means “An eclectic mix of found breakbeat samples from the back of dusty cupboards cut out by scissors with round blades and glued together by hooky guitars, old childrens keyboards and whatever odd instruments ebay has on offer that week.” Totally get what that means.

The amazing SWIMMING are the final Notts support of this night. These are the ultimate ambient band who create colourful sounds and joyous noises all looped together in the tastiest, sparkliest, most exciting wheel of confectionery EVER. They’re on the current New Music Podcast.

Tickets: £6 Adv.
Doors: 7pm

Yours In Love Of New Music
