The weather is getting colder, the shops are getting busier, and the gigs are getting better! Christmas is coming! This week we have a selection box of quality gigs with an absolute MAMMOTH show on Saturday night. Dya know what it is yet?!

GIG ONE

However, first up we have a mini-festival of delights at RESCUE ROOMS on Monday the 12th of December.

Opening the night is ALEX BLOOD AND THE DIGGERS followed by WILL BAILEY. WILL BAILEY is “Everyone’s favourite busker in shorts”. Part of Nottingham’s best ska-party-explosion band, BREADCHASERS, and also the infamous ARSE FULL OF CHIPS who are known for their nudity, but don’t worry (or get excited depending on your perspective), he normally keeps his Xmas sausage in his pants during a solo outings. Normally.

Then we have ALEXA HAWKSWORTH, she’s a one woman singer/songwriter powerhouse. Her acoustic goodness dripping with soul is an awesome experience live. Skilfully crafted songs and melodies only go to further highlight her impressive vocals. This girl has got talent.

The final support act is GERRY TRIMBLE. His blend of beautifully fragile, political folk is a big two fingers up to the system. Gerry says: “I write songs about things I like, things I hate and things I feel passionate about.” Don’t miss him for folks sake.

Headlining is BEANS ON TOAST who is from somewhere down south.

GIG TWO

FARMYARD PRESENTS – PRINTS IN THE SNOW, THE GOLDEN TROUBADOURS, THE SABOTEURS and DAMON DOWNS on Sunday the 18th of December at THE GOLDEN FLEECE.

THE SABOTEURS have an alternative vibe that is drenched in bluesy jazz. Check out the vocals and chilled sound of a personal favourite track of mine, Rocks and Cliches.

We love THE GOLDEN TROUBADOURS at Nusic. Semi-finalists of our DOG IS DEAD competition this band make some seriously good noises. Soulful folky goodness.

Headlining are PRINTS IN THE SNOW. Forming after a chance meeting in a tea shop in Nottingham (wonder where that might be?), this band have changed members over the years and sound as fresh as ever. The tender lyrics and melodic vibe of the music is not only elegant but at times literally spine-tingling. Make sure you don’t miss PRINTS IN THE SNOW!

GIG THREE

Now for the big one, literally, the biggest ever headlining show by a Nottingham artist! It’s the mighty DOG IS DEAD with support from TRIBES and KAPPA GAMMA at ROCK CITY on Saturday the 17th of December. We’re all a little bit excited for this, we might just wee our pants.

DOG IS DEAD will play the biggest show of their lives (so far) to a Rock City packed out with lovers of great Nottingham music. Unless you have been living under a rock over the last few months (or Derby) you will now know that the winner of our competition to support DOG IS DEAD was KAPPA GAMMA!

Congratulations to them and it is with no doubt that their delicate feel-good indie will warm up the crowd for DOG IS DEAD. We’re really excited for them and just know they are going to smash this incredible opportunity into the RC car park.

We could only really pick one band for our Artist of the Month slot for December and it had to be DOG IS DEAD, this gig is Nottingham musical history in the making, no Nottingham artist has ever done this! A couple (Pitchshifter etc) have headlined City but never got much over a 1000 people. Just imagine what the atmosphere is going to be like after six months of build-up with 1500+ of us in there willing the band on, our band, one of us, living the dream and possibly (we will not know till the day) playing a sold out Rock City show. A to the MAZING.

Check them both out on our podcast here then buy tickets for the gig here.

Also watch out for Nusic’s live coverage of the gig on the night, if we don’t get stuck in the mosh pit.

DOORS: 7:00pm
TICKETS: £7.50

Yours in love of New Music
