What a weekend!
OPIE DEINO (or Sian Alexandra to me and you) opened the semi-finals for the Future Sound of Nottingham on Saturday, silencing the crowds with her soothing voice.
SKIMAN was up next to provide everyone with some Notts Grime to bend their knees to and despite the late start (due to some technical difficulties) he still managed to more than please the crowd, a really high energy performance!
The crowd stuck around and built further for the next act, THE AUSTIN FRANCIS CONNECTION, who arguably had the biggest audience of the day. The beat-boxing and clever wordplay providing many a laugh on quite a dull, cloudy day in Nottingham city centre.
MUHA proved next that we honour every genre as they played their mix of eastern European sounds. Their colourful outfits certainly made sure they made a visual as well as sonic impression.
THE MONEY were the concluding act for the semi-finals on Saturday, bringing a big fan base with them. Their catchy songs certainly made passers-by stop and observe, or should that be perv? Yes ladies we saw you checking the boys out!
Kicking off the second day of semi-finals was MARC REEVES. The sunshine was out for us on Sunday and Marc kicked things off perfectly in a really soothing, gentle way that complimented the fact it was early Sunday afternoon, yes we suspect a significant percentage of the audience was still drunk!
REBEL SOUL COLLECTIVE strutted onto the stage next sticking up two metaphorical fingers to the afore-mentioned hangover sufferers as they belted out a banging set of their unqiue dance/ indie sound.
The sun was still out by the time it was KURT MARTINEZ‘s turn to shine and a big crowd began to develop even further as he entertained us all with his synthy dance tuneage.
Current leaders of our vote HARLIKINGS were up next bringing a big following with them who all screamed and cheered at the appropriate times, clearly got quite a following these guys, we suspect it may have grown a tad post this set.
THE AFTERDARK MOVEMENT got everyone up and bouncing along to their indie hip hop. They gave a lot of energy into their performance – I don’t know how one of them didn’t collapse in that heat! Great set.
The last act to take to the stage for our FSN semi-finals were TASTEBUDS who brought a great rousing ending to an amazing few days of local music.
