GIG ONE
A year after their last album release, MANIERE DES BOHEMIENS are bringing their electric mix of jazz infused folk to The Contemporary on July 7th for the launch of their newest piece of work ‘Melodies Manouche’.
An exquisite compilation of complex instrumental magic, MANIERE DES BOHEMIENS have managed to produce beautiful songs which will have you imagining yourself strolling along a Parisian boulevard on a romantic summer’s eve. Racking up support from industry experts having been played on 6 music and Tom Robinsons ‘Best of Introducing’ podcast, this eclectic group of self-proclaimed gypsies are well on their way to becoming the kings of whimsical jazzy folk.
Adding to that, The Contemporary is the perfect venue for such a unique experimental sound. Check it out!

ROAD TO SPLENDOUR
Stick it on your forehead, write it on your toilet roll, on your hand, tell Siri. Whatever. Be there to support your local music scene!
SAINT RAYMOND
Headlining this fantastic event at The Bodega is SAINT RAYMOND. Having played at Glastonbudget, Strawberry Fields and Y-Not Festival, the Indie/acoustic star in the making has even jammed backstage at Strawberry Fields Fest with Rizzle Kicks. Perhaps a future collab is among the horizon. Who knows?!
INDIANA
The very glorious INDIANA is the most talked about artist in the Nottingham music scene at the moment and she’s fastly making a name for herself nationally too. You know what we think of her by now having written and podcasted so much about her since April so we will not take up anymore of your time now. Be sure to catch her set, you will be mesmerized, no doubt.
MICHAEL LYNCH
Forget your problems and immerse yourself in the powerful and soulful voice of Mr MICHAEL LYNCH. Winning over fans with his charisma and angelic tone, Lynch is breaking through with BBC radio stations and of course did a great Future Session for us early in the year.
CHEEKY STOP PRESS – There is also another ROAD TO SPLENDOUR event this week, courtesy of THE BARNUM MESERVE. One of our boss’s favourite bands the floor-shaking threesome are set to perform at The Bodega on Friday 6th July from 7pm.

GIG THREE
The first in a new series of gigs celebrating Nottingham as the UK’s most vibrant music scene, From Notts with Love at The Contemporary kicks off with a celebration of the city’s soulful side. Brought to you by Farmyard Records, Mantra Promotions and Dean Jackson, July 6th sees some of our finest blues and folk acts come together for what promises to be a night of unimaginable talent.
First to take to the mic is the musical maverick TIM MCDONALD. Never to be tied down to one sound, McDonald’s music varies from smouldering string quartets to dark electronic folk and has been described as ‘the sound of authenticity’. His epic song writing always delivers so get on down early to catch Nottingham’s musical maestro.
Having given her her first play, interview and session over four years ago, NINA SMITH will be showing just how far she’s come. Her brand of acoustic soulful pop teamed with husky vocals have marked her as one to watch, if not THE one to watch. Her debut ep even earned her the description of ‘the voice of an angel whispering to God’. Utterly mesmerising live, this girl will be your new crush by the end of her set.
Another Nusic first play, HARLEIGHBLU is one of the most exciting artists on the rise. With a vintage, r&b sound, this 19 year old songstress draws the attention to those smouldering vocals with stripped-down simplicity. Reminiscent of such greats as Ella Fitzgerald you will surrender to her charm, so watch out world; HARLEIGHBLU’s coming for you. With HB there’s no question of whether she’ll realise her musical dreams, just when. Check out her Future Session with us back in July 2010
Prepare to swoon as folky favourite CHRIS MCDONALD follows. With his faithful acoustic, melodies akin to those of Ray Lamontagne and silky vocals, his polished performances will captivate you from the very start. Providing ‘proper, modern soul’, CHRIS MCDONALD will play with emotions you weren’t even aware of.
Gaining national recognition for co-writing Blind Faith with Chase and Status, LIAM BAILEY has firmly cemented his name as a Nottingham music staple. With undertones of reggae, blues and soul to his music and a voice that would make you think he’s walked straight out of 1960’s Detroit, this soulster will blow you away with his sleek yet unrefined talent, a growing musical force. In January the BBC declared the soulful vibes of Michael Kiwanuka The Sound of 2012, Liam’s being doing it for time.
Headlining this formidable lineup is ‘the musician’s musician’ and the girl that everyone’s talking about, our Artist of the Month for July NATALIE DUNCAN. With her debut album ‘Devil in Me’ set for release later on July 16th, her smokey vocals, bluesy piano and melancholy lyrics dealing with self-destruction and heartbreak will captivate you from the moment she opens her mouth to the moment she steps off stage. Undeniably beautiful in every sense, she continually proves why she is our artist of the month . Check her amazing session with PODDINGHAM.
So if it’s a chilled night filled with blues and booze you’re after, then get on down to the Nottingham Contemporary Friday July 6th for a night that promises to deliver an incredible overview of the exciting things happening on the soulful side of the UK’s most vibrant music scene.
Price: £8 in advance, £10 OTD.
Doors: 7.30pm.
