There’s a helluva lot going on this Bank Holiday weekend. So we’ve picked three free gigs for you lucky things to enjoy. There’s an ‘artistic jamboree’ at Sobar on Friday, the first of a new regular Acoustickle night at Saltbox and an EP launch at Tap ‘N’ Tumbler.
FRIDAY
Wire & Wool are bringing together a load of musicians, comedians, poets and artists for an ‘Artistic Jamboree’ at Sobar this Friday, and it’s all for free.
Headlining the night are ‘Indietronica’ three-piece THESE SKIES. The band have been around for four over years, making harrowing, celestial sounds with a punchy, explosive rhythm.
JAMES GORDON also known as JAMES WASHINGTON, is a spoken word artist and activist who talks through issues ranging from those in society and more personal matters, in his blissful, calming spoken word.
Opening the evening are THE SEVEN O CLOCK GUN who are actually playing at 6 o clock (#confusing). The two piece make fierce Grungey, Bluesy Folk music with a really sincere and full sound.

FRIDAY
Acoustickle are at the Saltbox this Friday night and bringing a load of their fave musical talent with them. Can’t Stop Won’t Stop will be DJing and it’s a Gods and Goddesses theme with a prize for best dressed.
MARITA METELIA will be performing her beautiful love songs that can make a room turn and stare. Her album ‘These Hurt Pieces’ display her awe inspiring voice and guitar playing.
CHAI LARDEN will be performing alongside guitarist BEN HIBBERT. Chai’s powerful and distinctive vocal and enheartening songwriting, combined with Ben’s impressive guitar playing make for a match made in heaven.
JOURDAN PIERRE BLAIR will be playing, who you might recognise as JAH DIGGA. A proper veteran in Notts music, he’s been making music all things Notts for well over a decade.
You can catch fellow veteran J LITTLES, who has accumulated thousands of views on YouTube. His latest release ‘The Rushton Gardens Project’ is a proper homage to Notts, name-checking the area in St. Anns.
You can also catch Acoustickle founder PARISA EAST. Her song ‘Happiness’ was recorded at the Acoustic Roots studio with LOWRIE and it’s a real beaut, showcasing Parisa’s incredible voice with her distinctive husky tone over some masterfully made beats.
You can also catch MAMA SOULCHILD.

SATURDAY
Hard Rock four piece TOWERS are launching their EP ‘Promised You Nothing’ at Tap ‘N’ Tumbler this Saturday. The band formed late last year, and are named after front woman Holly, whose last name is Towers. Clever that.
They’ll be supported by BRIANBLESSED, yep, they like Brian Blessed so much they named their band after him. They make some very noisy Grindcore Metal, with song titles such as ‘Bonnie Langford Vs Shit Bastard’ and ‘Crapoeira.’
You can also catch TheoTheo from Northampton.
